There is an increasing number of Australians coming to Vietnam for tourism, business or other purposes. But no matter what reason you are visiting Vietnam for, a valid Vietnam visa is a must. So how do Australians get a Vietnam visa? How much does it cost? All will be answered in the following post.
1. Do Australians need a visa for Vietnam?
Yes.
Australians are requested for having a valid, legitimate Vietnam visa if they want to enter the country, unless they directly visit Phu Quoc island of Vietnam and leave it for Australia or any country outside Vietnam, in this case, they are eligible for 30 days visa exemption.
2. Vietnam visa types
According to the New Immigration Law No. 51/2019/QH14, Vietnam visa is categorized into 21 types, of which 5 types are most popular today.

3. How to get a visa to Vietnam?
At the moment there are 3 common ways for Australians and others to own a Vietnam visa including:
- Vietnam embassy visa;
- Vietnam visa on arrival (applied for those who enter Vietnam by air);
- Vietnam E-visa (applied for those who enter Vietnam for tourism, 1 month, single entry)
4. Vietnam visa processing time and cost
Both Vietnam visa processing time and cost depend on the way that you choose to get your visa.
For example, for an e-visa to Vietnam, you will need to pay US$25/visa processed in 3 working days normally.
For a visa on arrival, you will need to pay 02 types of fees: service fee and stamping fee which is:
- US $25 for a single entry visa;
- US $50 for a multiple entry visa valid for up to 3 months;
- US $95 for a multiple entry visa valid for up to 6 months;
- US $135 for a multiple entry visa valid for up to 12 months.
5. Can I extend my visa in Vietnam?
Yes, when you are in Vietnam and your visa almost comes expired, you can extend it by following these Vietnam visa extension instructions.
In case the limited time for visa extension in Vietnam has been reached or the cost of visa extension is too high, you may go ahead with a visa run. However, please remember that the visa extension during this COVID is the best choice if you wish to remain in Vietnam, as leaving Vietnam during these days is very easy, but it’s not such easy for coming back to the country.
