1. Who are eligible for 5-year Vietnam visa?

Owning a certificate of 5-year Vietnam visa exemption brings unlimited advantages for Australians, but not all can apply for it.

The qualified applicants include:

  • Overseas Vietnamese in Australia and other countries;
  • The foreigner who is the wife, husband, and child(ren) of the Vietnamese overseas and Vietnamese citizens;
  • Not subject to “Not yet allowed entry into Vietnam” under Article 28 of the Law on entry, exit, and residence of foreigners in Vietnam, specifically:
  • Those who are accused, defended with related obligations in a criminal case or being the defendant, the defendant, the person with related obligations in civil cases, commercial business, labor, administration, marriage, and family;
  • Those obliged to abide by a court judgment or decision or a Competition Settlement Council’s decision;
  • Those whose tax obligations are not fulfilled;
  • Those who are obliged to comply with decisions sanctioning administrative violations;
  • For other special reasons of national defense and security.

2. How to get a 5-year Vietnam visa

2.1. 1st time applicants are required to submit:

  • Application form. Please make sure to get a printed document with a barcode (block letters of AUS and 9 digits);
  • Original passport (at least 1 year in validity and 2 blank pages);
  • 02 photos (4x6cm, white background, front view, both ears visible, newly taken within 6 months);
  • Vietnamese birth certificate, ID card (for Vietnamese citizens);
  • Marriage certificate and documents of Vietnamese spouse; or foreign birth certificate and documents of Vietnamese parents (for foreign passport holders);
  • 01 return prepaid self-addressed envelope (in case of returning documents via post)
  • Fee in AUD (by bank cheque or Money Order payable to “The Embassy of Viet Nam”).

2.2. Those whose Vietnam visa exemption certificates are lost or expired are required to submit:

  • Application form;
  • Original passport (at least 1 year in validity and 2 blank pages);
  • 02 photos (4x6cm, white background, front view, both ears visible, newly taken within 6 months);
  • Original or copy of Vietnam visa certificate, or report of loss;
  • 01 return prepaid self-addressed envelope (in case of returning documents via post)
  • Fee in AUD (by bank cheque or Money Order payable to “The Embassy of Viet Nam”).

3. Processing time and fee

Normally if documents are fully received, it takes 1 working day for the Embassy of Vietnam in Canberra, Australia to send the list of applicants back to the Vietnamese Immigration Department, Vietnam Ministry of Public Security. And then the Department will issue the result (approval or denial) within 1 working day.
